From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
