The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
