Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
