Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on court had prompted observers to question if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour title, took control to force a final set.

The opponent saved four early opportunities in a close final set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
